General questions
What do you do for a living?
I am a Licensed Professional Counselor in the Near West Suburbs of Chicago using the particular energies of Usui Reiki and the unparalled information and grace available working in the Akashic Records. I work with couples, parents and other nurturers, as well as those in need of nurturance. I feel my work is very influenced by my connection to the Holy Mother, whose devotion was passed to me from my mother and is being strongly sensed by my own daughters.
What religions or philosophies of life do you believe in?
I was very fortunate to have gotten an excellent grounding in spirit and metaphysics at a relatively early age. As a child growing up Catholic, I was taught to pray to Jesus and Mary. I entered a lifelong very close and dear relationship with them. At the age of eighteen, I came across a wondeful teacher, Finley Eversole, who gave his class the basics of metaphysics from a variety of sources. Paul Brunton, Annie Besant and other Theosophists, Alice Bailey , Manly Palmer Hall, Choygam Trumpka, Steiner, Sufi traditions, you name it. This gave me a grounding from which to start and then the rest came from following my own inner voice, my own inner quest. I was taught to not look for authorities other than my own still small voice within. It has served me well.
What are your favorite books?
There are so many. My current favorite--just about anything by Neil Gaiman. In my neverending quest for comic relief, I've just finished and really enjoyed Good Omens. I think American Gods is wonderful. There are too many books that I truly love to claim favorites.
What type of books do you like to read?
Historical fiction, regular fiction, psychology and biographies.
What type of movies or television shows do you watch?
Ones with not much violence, the exception being Homicide: Life on the Streets. I try to catch West Wing and ER. Loved Lost in Translation, anything that takes me away, like Whale Rider.
What kind of music do you like?
My current obsession is revisiting Townes Van Zandt. I've also discovered Spaccanapoli, but in general, I'm very eclectic. Montiverdi madrigals are nectar.I have to always see what Leonard Cohen and Kate Bush are up to. The Dandy Warhols and Spoon have caught my attention too, but I am at the mercy of radio stations mostly. Luckily, my town has great ones. It's rock to Bach and all places in between for me.
Do you consider yourself to be more of a conservative or liberal person?
Just left of center on the liberal side.
What achievements in your life are you most proud of?
Currently, surfing, in this my 50th year. Thank you to my great teacher, Kai!
Reiki questions
What Reiki level are you?
Practitioner/Teacher
How did you find Reiki and how long have you been involved with Reiki?
I was in Venezuela and went to a massage therapist who was also a Reiki practioner. Some time after the massage, I had the most whole and expansive feeling. Some years after, I found a practioner near me who kept me from being overwhelmed and overstressed by graduate school and about three other major stressors. I had to learn it for myself. It also cleared away much baggage that a year and a half of psychotherapy, though very effective, was not able to release.
What style or styles of Reiki do you practice?
Usui so far.
