I have had three teachers for Reiki. Two of them taught the Usui Shiki Ryoho method. One used traditional hand positioning while the other used a more "free-flowing" style. I have been exposed to other healing methods and favor those as well. What I call the traditional method doesn't seem complete to me. I have learned to incorporate the power of breath, and to be very aware of energy in and around the "client", and to pay attention to visual clues or visions that come to me. Also, I use prayer as I have strong Christian roots -- and would not do a Reiki session without it. I also give my sessions a lot of focus whereas some other Reiki people I know feel it okay to chat about the weather or their family life while doing Reiki. To me that is distracting and a disservice to the client. I also ask for feedback from the client --- before, during and after the session.

I am really more interested in preparing a class designed to teach prayer and meditation that will help people to create a strong relationship with God --- or the Universe --- or Our Creator --- or the Great Spirit. The name does not matter, as "what is, is." So far this class is only in the conceptual stage. This class will stress that the Spirit is Within, and turning inward is the only way most of us will ever truly connect with the Divine.
